DePauw Falls Short to Oberlin, 15-10

Greencastle, Ind. - The Tigers opened conference play against Oberlin with a 15-10 loss. DePauw dropped to 4-4 overall, while the Yeomen improved to 6-2.

Oberlin scored three goals in the first six minutes before DePauw sophomore midfielder Oscar Kokke countered in the seventh minute and sophomore attack Alex Sharma scored 30 seconds later to make the score 3-2. The Yeomen's Jacob Starcke scored in the eighth minute, before the game went scoreless for five straight minutes. To break the scoring drought, DePauw junior defenseman Jack Blum scored a goal with a minute and a half remaining, before Nicholas Cuda responded in the final 30-seconds of the quarter, making the score 5-3 in favor of Oberlin.

In the second quarter, Oberlin gained more momentum, scoring four goals within the first five minutes of the quarter. To break the streak, Alex Sharma recorded another goal on a man-up opportunity for the Tigers, bringing the score to 9-4. In the final two seconds of the half, the Yeomen scored a last-minute goal to go up 10-4 heading into halftime.

Third-quarter scoring started with a goal from the Tigers' junior attack, Jack Neff, and a goal from junior defenseman Russell Nelson. Oberlin responded with three unanswered goals to close out the third quarter with a score of 13-6.

Neff again started the final quarter for the Tigers, scoring two goals in the third minute of the quarter, before Oberlin responded with their two final goals of the game, and with eight minutes left in the game, Oberlin led 15-8. With six minutes remaining, freshman Kam Shiver scored twice for the Tigers to bring the game to its final score of 15-10.

DePauw's Anthony Reinheart totaled 14 saves on the day, while Nolan Grieshaber had six saves for the Yeomen.

DePauw was 26 for 30 on clearing the ball and had 19 ground balls, while Oberlin was 25 of 27 and totaled 41 ground balls. The Tigers turned the ball over 18 times during the course of the game, and the Yeomen turned the ball over 23 times. Oberlin won 28 of the 29 faceoffs and outshot DePauw, 51-30.

The Tigers return to action with an NCAC game at Wooster on Saturday, March 28.
