Greencastle, Ind. - Fourth-seed DePauw outscored fifth-seed Wittenberg, 49-15, over the final three quarters and advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal with a 68-31 quarterfinal victory. DePauw improved to 17-9 and will face host Denison at 5 p.m. on Thursday, while Wittenberg finished its season at 11-15.
The teams started on a torrid pace with Wittenberg making its first five field goal attempts and DePauw hitting its first four as the visitors built a 12-9 lead in the opening 3:20 of the contest. Wittenberg held a 16-14 advantage after Molly Missing's basket with 2:24 left in the opening period.
Olivia Hart hit a jumper and a three-point play, giving DePauw a 19-16 lead at the quarter break.
Early in the second,
Hannah Meyers and
Lily Huntzinger each hit threes to extend the margin to nine at 25-16. Wittenberg was within eight before DePauw closed the half on a 9-0 run to take a 37-20 lead at the intermission.
DePauw held Wittenberg without a field goal in the opening 8:10 of the third in pushing the lead to 51-23 before heading to the final stanza with a 56-25 advantage.
Hart led DePauw with 21 points, while
Riley Mont added 12 and Huntzinger 11. Huntzinger paced the host Tigers with six rebounds and shared the assists lead with
Alina Prusko as each had four. Campbel; Schrank led the way with three steals.
Karsen Karlblom paced Wittenberg with nine points with Mossing and Karley Moore each hauling down five rebounds. Mossing, Moore and Madi Barnett each totaled two assists and Moore had three steals.
DePauw shot 43.6 percent from the field to Wittenberg's 21.2 percent and the hosts held a 37-29 rebounding edge. DePauw committed 10 turnovers with Wittenberg finishing with 19.
