DePauw Falls to Carthage on the Road

Kenosha, Wis. - DePauw fell to Carthage 12-5 on the road today. The Tigers fall to 1-1 and the Firebirds move to 2-1.

Carthage came out racing and took a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter behind Jake Westland's hat trick. Westland would add one more before the half, but DePauw answered with goals from Oscar Kokke, Kam Shivar, and Gavin Berry. The Tigers went into half trailing 6-3.

The Redbirds had a strong third quarter scoring five unanswered with two assists from Westland. DePauw would finish the third quarter down 11-4 after Jack Neff scored on an assist from Brody Carlson. Carlson was the only Tiger to record an assist on the day and added on a goal in the 4th quarter to bring the final score to 12-5.

On the defensive end, Anthony Reinhardt overcame a slow start to finish the game with 11 saves and a 48% save percentage. Junior captain Jack Blum led the defense with three caused turnovers while Trevor Martay, Russ Nelson, and Brody Carlson each contributed two. Carlson and Nelson led the team with five ground balls, capping off a solid individual effort from the sophomore Carlson. Evan Cleveland went 10-17 on faceoffs for a 59% winning percentage.

The two teams were evenly matched on the stat sheet. Carthage held their largest statistical advantage in shots on goal leading the Tigers 23-12. DePauw held an advantage in saves 11-7 but had six more turnovers on the day than the Redbirds.

Westland led the Redbirds' offense with six points, no other Carthage player had more than two. Keyan Schugel led the team with seven ground balls on a 9-21 afternoon at the faceoff dot. Josh Flores led the defense with six caused turnovers.

DePauw returns home for their next game on Wednesday, February 25th at 7 p.m. for a game under the lights against another CCIW foe in Illinois Wesleyan.
