Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw field hockey team scored in every quarter, defeating the Washington & Jefferson University Presidents 7-0 on Saturday, October 4. With the win, the Tigers improve to 7-2 overall, while the Presidents drop to 1-6.
DePauw quickly seized the momentum as Rosie Ondrla got the ball well outside of the shooting circle, dribbled past three defenders and finished the play with DePauw's first goal of the day in only the second minute of play.
The Tigers tacked on two more goals in the first quarter, both coming off penalty corners. The first penalty-corner goal came after Ellie Lochhead crossed the ball to Anna Marks who scored off a shot from the back of the shooting circle. Lochhead recorded another assist on the Tigers third goal, which was finished off by Ava Gallagher.
In the second quarter, Lochhead tallied yet another assist, passing the ball across the shooting circle, which bounced off the goalkeeper for the Presidents, and right to Sophie Schirmaker, who scored the fourth goal of the day for DePauw.
Liza Flower followed up that goal with one her own two minutes later off an assist by Ella Harms. Harms dribbled around a defender and passed to Flower, who then fired a shot into the back of the goal.
DePauw took a 5-0 lead into halftime.
Harms recorded another assist in the third quarter, going on a breakaway in the center of the field and passing to Lochhead who finished the play with a goal.
Flower scored her second goal of the day in the fourth quarter after Anna Marks passed the ball down the field to the center of the shooting circle. Flower collected the ball and scored the seventh and final goal of the day for the Tigers.
The offensive explosion was backed up by a shutout from goalkeepers Colby Durbin and Olivia Streifel. Streifel recorded four saves in the game.
Flower led the way with two goals, while Lochhead recorded a career-high three assists and one goal. Harms added two assists, while Marks and Gallagher each tallied one goal and one assist.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, October 13 at 4 p.m, taking on Maryville at home.
