Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw University men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win over the Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday afternoon.
Entering the game with high energy, DePauw converted a bobbled ball from Oberlin's goalkeeper into their first goal of the game at 14:16, delivered by sophomore forward Sami Ahmed for his first goal of the season.
Minutes later the Tigers drew a free kick within the attacking quadrant, where junior defender Harrison Engel kicked the ball inside the penalty box for junior midfielder Julian Bell to connect with a header to tally their second goal. The play was reviewed for suspicion of Bell making contact with his arms as opposed to his head, but the goal was confirmed after video review. This was Bell's sixth goal of the season.
With less than 20-minutes remaining in the first half, the Tigers drew a free kick that junior defender Aidan Whitley delivered to sophomore forward Ante Basan. Basan moved the ball within junior defender Aditya Yogesh's reach, who caught the goalkeeper off-guard with a ball delivered to the bottom right corner of the net. This was Yogesh's second goal of the season.
Up 3-0 at halftime, they returned to make five more shots in the second half and keep the Yeomen scoreless.
Basan led the Tigers with five shots during the game, Bell trailed with four.
Senior goalkeeper played the full 90-minutes, facing no shots on goal.
DePauw edged Oberlin 16-1 in shots, 9-0 on goal as well as corner kicks 8-3. Oberlin's goalkeepers made six saves in goal.
One yellow card was awarded to an Oberlin player during the second half for unsportsmanlike conduct.
With the win, DePauw sits at 1-2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, while Oberlin is second to last with a 1-3-1 record, 2-10-2 overall.
Moving forward in conference play, the Tigers will host Wabash on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m.
