Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Wittenberg jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the opening four minutes, but DePauw battled back and took a 70-43 North Coast Athletic Conference win. DePauw improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the NCAC and moved back into first place in the conference standings. Wittenberg dropped to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Wittenberg hit its first six field goals, while DePauw missed its first 10 as the guests built a double-digit lead.
Sam Jacobs hit a pair of free throws with 4:30 left in the first half to give DePauw its first lead of the game at 25-23. The hosts took a 28-26 advantage into the intermission after shooting just 23.5 percent from the field and missing all 12 3-point attempts.
Wittenberg was within five at 42-37 with 10:03 left in the game before DePauw embarked on a 17-0 run over the next 5:38 to push the lead to 59-37. During the stretch, DePauw hit 6-of-7 from the field including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Jacobs led DePauw with 15 points, while
Billy Bach matched a career high with 13 and
Eli Ellis finished with 10.
Reph Stevenson grabbed eight rebounds, Ellis equaled a career-best with four assists and Andrew Ozlowski blocked four shots.
Noah Frayer paced Wittenberg with 17 points with Dawson Scott and Kyle Kenney each hauling down five rebounds.
DePauw shot 37.7 percent for the game including 55.6 percent in the second half. Wittenberg connected on 31.6 percent from the floor, but made just 1-of-18 from 3-point range.
DePauw held a 45-30 rebounding edge and committed eight turnovers to Wittenberg's nine.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, with a 4 p.m. NCAC game at Oberlin.
