Greencastle, IN -Â DePauw Men's Soccer (2-1-1) defended their home field Saturday afternoon, securing a 2-0 victory over Adrian at Reavis Stadium.
The Tigers controlled the opening half, peppering the Bulldog defense with chances until the breakthrough came in the 39th minute. Matthew Fogo slipped a sharp ball into the box where freshman midfielder Sami Ahmed connected for the finish, beating the keeper and giving DePauw the edge before halftime. This was Ahmed's first career goal.Â
Returning from the break, the Tigers wasted little time doubling their lead. Just over 17 minutes into the second half, Sebastian Leon delivered a pinpoint ball to Joey Black, who buried it for his second goal in as many matches, putting DePauw firmly in command. Black has tallied three goals this season, scoring one apiece for three games in a row now.Â
Adrian struggled to generate offense against the Tiger back line, managing only two shots all match, while goalkeeper Sam Ortner calmly secured the clean sheet with a single save.
The match featured a physical tone with four yellow cards issued—three to DePauw and one to Adrian—but the Tigers kept their composure to close out their second win of the season.
DePauw (2-1-1) returns to action on Tuesday, September 9, when they travel to Rose-Hulman to take on the Fighting Engineers.Â
