Tigers Wrap up Season with Win at Hiram

Mentor, Ohio - DePauw wrapped up its season with an 11-5 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Hiram before game two of the doubleheader was canceled due to weather. The Tigers finished the season at 12-26 overall and 3-12 in the NCAC, while the Terriers are 13-24-1 overall and 4-11 in conference play.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as Max Bond led off with a single and stole second before Drew Straub walked and Carter Knoll doubled, scoring Bond. After Grady Johnson walked, Louis Florida drove in Straub with a single and Cuinn Morrow brought home Knoll with a sacrifice fly.

Hiram reached the board in the fourth as Joey Gubanc led off with a triple and scored when Evan Fairbanks reached on an error. Jacob Flesher singled and a wild pitch allowed Fairbanks to score.

The Terriers took the lead in the fifth as Hal Walker, Jr. walked with one out and moved to second when Logan Gallentine reached on an error. Both moved up on a wild pitch and came home on Gubanc's single to give Hiram a 4-3 lead.

DePauw regained the lead in the sixth when Straub doubled with two outs and moved to third as Knoll reached on an error. Johnson's double scored both and put the Tigers ahead 5-4.

Walker, Jr., led off the Hiram seventh with a walk and advanced to second on Gallentine's sacrifice bunt. Gubanc was hit by a pitch before Fairbanks reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error on the play allowed Walker, Jr., to score and even the count at 5-5.

Bond and Straub singled to start the DePauw eighth and Knoll doubled home Bond. Johnson's sacrifice fly brought home Straub to give DePauw a 7-5 advantage. Bryson Dorsey reached on a fielder's choice with Knoll out on the play. Florida's triple plated Dorsey and Florida scored after Morrow reached on an error. Aidan Howard's single scored Morrow and pushed the lead to 10-5.

Straub led off the DePauw ninth with a walk, moved to second on Knoll's grounder and to third when Johnson singled. Dorsey followed with a single that scored Straub and made it 11-5.

Bond, Dorsey and Florida each had three of DePauw's 18 hits with Straub, Knoll, Johnson and Howard following with two each. Gubanc had three of Hiram's six hits.

Finn O'Meara improved to 1-2 after pitching three innings and allowing just one unearned run and no hits. Sam Boyle dropped to 2-2.
