Wooster, Ohio - The Tigers fell to the Fighting Scots in the NCAC semifinal, 19-12.
DePauw entered post season play with a record of 7-9 and 3-3 in conference. Earlier in the season, the Tigers challenged the Scots to overtime falling 12-11.
Kate Sullivan led the Tigers with four goals while
Bridget Driscoll tallied yet another hat trick on the season.
Emerson Perea put away two and
Caleigh Claar,
Rosalie Tasker, and
Kate Leone all netted one each.
Wooster scored first in the game, but Claar counter attacked 45-seconds later by charging the net to tie the score up, 1-1. The Fighting Scots went on a three goals-streak before Tasker was able to fed the ball inside to Sullivan for the Tigers' second goal of the night. Driscoll broke down a couple defenders to net another goal for the Tigers' cutting the Fighting Scots lead to 3-4 with 2:44 remaining in the first.
The Fighting Scots lengthened their lead with three goals before Perea drew a foul to give the Tigers a free position goal. Less than a minute later, Driscoll was left undefended, netting a ball Sullivan dished up for her inside the circle. Leone carried momentum for the Tigers finding to tally the third straight goal, trailing Wooster 7-6 with 8:23 left in the first half.
Tasker wrapped around the net to score the Tigers' seventh goal and Sullivan netted a goal to tie up the score 8-8. Growing defensively aggressive, the Tigers played step-in-step, maintaining a one point deficit going into halftime.
In the third, the Tigers began to lose steam while the Fighting Scots picked up the pace. Perea capitalized on the Scots eager defense by drawing a foul to earn another point of the Tigers. Tasker fed Sullivan a shot from behind the net to give the Tigers their second goal of the third quarter. For the Tigers two goals, the Scots netted five in the third, numbers that repeated in the fourth.
Heading into the final quarter of regulation, the Fighting Scots made a statement with three in a row, stretching the lead 17-10. Driscoll and Sullivan counterattacked in the last four minutes to attempt to lessen the blow but the Fighting Scots remained offensively vigilant, ending the game 19-12.
Niamh Callahn recorded nine saves in goal for DePauw, while Audrey Richardson had seven stops for the Fighting Scots.
Bridget Driscoll paced DePauw with 14 draw controls, while
Kai Coffee had six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sidney O'Rouke paced the Fighting Scots with five draw controls, while Ashlyn Casey had five ground balls.
Wooster held a 35-27 advantage in shots including 28-19 in shots on goal. DePauw totaled 23 turnovers to Wooster's 14 with the Fighting Scots leading in ground balls, 24-21. The Fighting Scots led in draw controls, 22-13.
