Delaware, Ohio - Second-seed DePauw advanced to its ninth North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship game after topping sixth-seed Hiram, 69-53, in the evening's second semifinal game. The Tigers improved to 19-6 and face fifth-seed Wittenberg after its 56-54 victory over top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan. Tipoff for the title game is slated for 4 p.m.
The Tigers jumped out to a 9-2 lead over Hiram and never trailed. Hiram scored the next five, but DePauw finished the period on an 8-1 run to take a 17-8 lead at the quarter break.Â
DePauw opened the second with eight straight to take a 25-8 advantage and the Tigers led at the intermission, 36-24.
Hiram closed the gap to 10 on multiple occasions in the third as the Tigers took a 51-41 lead into the fourth.
The Terriers were still within 10 at 57-47 before
Ava Hassel and
Riley Mont hit threes to stretch the lead to 16.
Ainsley Boras and
Olivia Hart led the Tigers with 14 points apiece with Boras grabbing 11 rebounds. Hassel followed with 12 points and seven assists and Mont scored 11.
Jo Janda led Hiram with 14 points followed by Isabella Caceres with 11 points and five assists and Anastasia Lawler with 10 points.
DePauw shot 38.1 percent from the field to Hiram's 42.0 percent, but the Terriers committed 24 turnovers to the Tigers' 11.
