Angola, Ind. - DePauw scored the game's first two goals in the opening seven minutes, but Trine scored the next three and never trailed the rest of the way in a 9-6 win over the Tigers in the season opener for both schools.
Gavin Berry scored just 2:31 into the season before
Jack Neff gave DePauw a 2-0 lead with 8:37 left in the first. The Thunder, however, finished the half on a 5-1 run for a 5-3 halftime lead.
The Tigers closed to within one on two occasions, but Trine scored twice within a minute midway through the third and then pushed the lead to 9-5 in the opening minute of the fourth.
Noah Sulpizio led the Tigers with four goals with
Henry White assisting on two.
Brody Carlson had six ground balls and caused two turnovers as did
Jack Brand. Mathew Roman won 8-of-15 faceoffs.
Xavier Huber, Riley Fischer and Collin Custer each scored two goals for Trine with Landen Kruse assisting on three. Mason Levin and J'Oshua Shaw each had four ground balls and Levin caused three turnovers.
Anthony Reinhardt totaled 11 saves for DePauw with Zade Gawrys finishing with four for the Thunder and Luke Arnold totaling three.
Trine outshot DePauw, 28-26, and led in ground balls, 32-27. The Thunder totaled 27 turnovers to the Tigers' 22.
DePauw travels to Anderson on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for a 6 p.m.game.
