Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw Tigers men's soccer team defeat #2 Denison, 1-0 at home Wednesday afternoon.
NCAC Athlete of the Week,
Braden Murphey scored the game-winning goal to defeat the nationally ranked Big Red in the 86th minute.
The Tigers edged Big Red 13-3 in shots setting a fast pace and forcing Big Red to make quicker decisions.
Denison's Andrew Nachtwey drew two consecutive yellow cards, resulting in a red card after
Alek Habecker took a cleat to the face. Habecker was removed from play with a bandaged nose for the remainder of the game.
The Tigers fought relentlessly for scoring opportunities, until Murphey found an opening with a spread out defensive line he shot a bullet from outside the penalty box in the bottom right corner of the net.
For the remainder of regulation, DePauw fought to defend their goal and burn down the clock with less than five minutes remaining.
This win raises DePauw to first in the NCAC with an overall record of 8-2-3 (3-0-1) and #2 Denison falls to 10-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Tigers handed Big Red their first conference loss of the season.
DePauw men's soccer will return to play on Saturday, October 18th when the Tigers take on Ohio Wesleyan on the road at 7 p.m. They'll return home to Reavis Tuesday, October 21st against Wittenberg at 7 p.m.
