DePauw Extends Win Streak to Six and Remains Unbeaten in NCAC with Win over Wittenberg

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw stayed unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference play following a 79-70 win over visiting Wittenberg. The Tigers collected their sixth straight win and improved to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg dropped to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

DePauw built a 21-11 lead after the first period before Moira McGinley converted a 3-point play and Ava Hassel buried a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 27-11. The visiting Tigers scored the next 16 over a stretch of 3:23 to even the score at 27-27. The teams went to the halftime break tied, 33-33.

The game was still tied, 40-40,  before Tori Allen hit two free throws and Riley Mont and Lily Huntzinger added buckets on consecutive possessions to push the lead to 46-40. The Tigers shot 60 percent from the field in the third and took a 59-50 lead into the final quarter.

Olivia Hart's bucket on the first possession of the fourth and Ava Hassel's two free throws pushed the lead to 13. Wittenberg got as close as six at 70-64 with 1:46 left before Hassel hit a free throw and McGinley followed with a three-point play to extend the lead to 74-64 with 1:05 remaining.

Wittenberg was again within six with 40 seconds remaining, but DePauw nailed 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Hart and Hassel each scored 16 for DePauw with Hart's matching a career high. Hart added eight rebounds and three blocks. Huntzinger followed with 11 points, while Mont and McGinley each scored 10. Allen and Mont each handed out three assists.

Taryn Cash led Wittenberg with 20 points, while Riane Burton finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Cash and Jazmyn Gaines-Burns each dished out five assists.

The Tigers shot 42.9 percent for the game to Wittenberg's 41.5 percent and the hosts held a 37-28 rebounding edge. 

DePauw travels to Kenyon on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a 2 p.m. NCAC game.
