Second-Half Run Propels #19 Denison to Win over Tigers

Granville, Ohio - Denison used a 19-0 run over a 6:40 stretch of the second half to pull away from DePauw for a 76-56 North Coast Athletic Conference win. The Tigers' four-game win streak came to an end as they dropped to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The 19th-ranked Big Red improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC with its ninth straight victory.

DePauw fell behind by as many as seven points in the first five minutes of the contest, but rattled off 10 straight to take an 18-15 lead. The Tigers' lead reached four at 24-20 after Reph Stevenson hit a pair of free throws with 8:28 left in the half.

Denison scored eight straight later in the half to gain a 31-26 advantage on the way to a 35-32 halftime lead. 

Sam Jacobs opened the second half with a pair of free throws to trim the Denison lead to 35-34 before the Big Red scored nine consecutive over a 2:03 span to take a double-digit lead. The Tigers were still within nine at 48-39, but Denison scored the next 19 to grab a 67-39 advantage with 8:52 left.

Jacobs led DePauw with 17 points, while Stevenson added 13 points and seven rebounds. Caleb Washington dished out a team-high four assists.

Trevor Reed paced Denison with 19 points with Ricky Radtke following with 15 points and seven rebounds and Kellon Smith chipping in 10. Jack Steinbach led the way with four assists.

DePauw shot 41.3 percent from the field to Denison's 50.9 percent and the Big Red held a 32-25 rebounding edge for a 15-3 edge in second-chance points. The Tigers committed 10 turnovers with Denison totaling just six which led to a 16-4 advantage in points off of turnovers.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22, when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
