Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Drop Second Road Game in 4-2 Loss to the Royals

Kenosha, Wis.- In its second Battle of the Border game this weekend, the DePauw women's soccer team couldn't claw its way back in its 4-2 loss to Bethel University (Minn.). The Tigers drop to 1-2-1 for the season, while the Royals move to 1-0.

Though the Tigers struck first in the 13th-minute mark off an unassisted goal by first-year Mia Kubek, DePauw's one-goal lead was quickly erased during the middle portion of regulation by the Royals. Between the 30th and 40th minutes, Bethel scored three goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half the Tigers managed to stifle the Royals offense, allowing just three shots, and no corners. Despite its ability to lock down Bethel, the Royals put one more goal past the Tigers in the 76th minute to go up 4-1. For the second time this season, DePauw didn't let the score or amount of time left on the clock determine its effort and scored its second goal of the afternoon when Emily Streeter found Alexsandra Little following a corner attempt with 19 seconds left in regulation.

DePauw outshot its opponents 14-10. However, Bethel put seven shots on goal, while the Tigers only recorded four. DePauw also held an advantage in corner kicks, earning nine corners while giving up just two on the other end.

Taylor Beard and Aubree Empie shared time in goal for the Tigers. Beard finished the day with two goals, while Empie recorded one. In goal for the Royals was Kate Green, who finished the day with two saves.

The Tigers' next game is Tuesday, September 10, in Terre Haute, Ind., where they will take on Rose-Hulman at 7 p.m.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.
