#25 DePauw Shuts Out #22 Berry

Mount Berry, Ga. - In a battle of top 25 teams, #25 DePauw limited 22nd-ranked Berry to just 123 yards and the offense took advantage on the way to a 33-0 road win. The Tigers moved to 2-0, while the Vikings dropped to 1-1.

Berry converted on fourth down on its first series, but then was stopped and forced to punt. A bad snap resulted in DePauw gaining possession at the Berry 7. On the second play, DePauw quarterback Nathan McCahill teamed with Robby Ballentine for a 6-yard scoring play and Matthew Berry's point-after made it 7-0.

Early in the second the hosts crossed into DePauw territory for the first time, but Trey Richards' 39-yard field goal was off the mark.

DePauw made it 10-0 with 13 seconds left in the half as Berry booted a 21-yard field goal.

The defense posted a three-and-out on the first series of the second half and DePauw responded with an eight-play, 61-yard possession capped by Caden Whitehead's 1-yard run which extended DePauw's lead to 17-0.

The next Berry drive stalled at the Vikings' 20 and, after a punt the Tigers took over on their own 47. On the first play from scrimmage, McCahill connected with Jaylon Smith for a 53-yard score which made it 24-0 with 8:59 remaining in the third.

Berry missed a field goal late in the third, but an offside penalty on Berry gave the Tigers new life and tight end Gabe Quigley tossed a 17-yard reverse pass to Ballentine to push the lead to 31-0 with 1:16 remaining in the third.

In the fourth, DePauw was unable to score from the Berry 1 and turned the ball over on downs, but the Vikings' Sam Oberhousen was tackled in the end zone by Luke Nolan for a safety with 5:09 left in the contest.

The Tigers totaled 93 rushing yards and 167 through the air. McCahill completed 11-of-20 for 150 yards and two scores. Ballentine caught five for 70 yards and two scores and Caden Whitehead totaled 71 rushing yards on 22 carries. Berry totaled just 123 yards including 50 on the ground and 73 passing.

Luke Marsh led the DePauw defense with seven tackles and Jonathan Bruder added six. The Tigers finished with 7.0 tackles for losses totaling 36 yards. Matthew Coons had an interception and two pass breakups in the win.

DePauw totaled 13 first downs in the win and held Berry to just eight.

DePauw opens defense of its three North Coast Athletic Confernce titles on Saturday, Sept. 21, when it hosts Wooster in a 1 p.m. contest at Blackstock Stadium.
