Greenville, Ill.- The DePauw Women's Soccer team clawed back from a two-goal deficit in its season-opening 2-2 draw against Greenville University.
The Tigers paced the game in the first half, possessing the ball for most of the half. This resulted in outshooting the Panthers 8-3 and earning six corner kicks. Despite their offensive pressure, DePauw couldn't find the back of Greenville's net. In the 45th minute of play, the Panthers managed to break through the Tigers' backline and go up 1-0 with just under 30 seconds left in the half.
Greenville extended its lead to two in the 63rd minute following a free-kick attempt. Keeping their composure, less than a minute later, the Tigers cut the Panthers' lead in half after first-year Katharine Lacy scored her first career goal as a DePauw Tiger. With well over 25 minutes left in regulation, DePauw continued to push the pace of the game, and in the 80th minute, a fresh-legged Sydney Calisto scored the game-tying goal.
The Tigers had a 19-7 shooting edge over the Panthers and an 8-1 advantage over Greenville in corner kicks. First-year Taylor Beard and sophomore Aubree Empiee made three saves in goal for the Tigers, while Panthers' Madison Ashford and Addison Miller split time in goal, recording two saves apiece.
The Tigers return to Greencastle, Ind., on Sunday, September 1, to host Manchester University at Reavis Stadium for a 12 p.m. matchup against the Spartans.
