Game Recap: Softball |

DePauw Drops Twinbill at Denison; Sunday Doubleheader Canceled

Granville, Ohio - In the final North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader of the 2024 season, DePauw drop both games at Denison by scores of 5-2 and 4-3. The Tigers moved to 24-13-1 overall and finished NCAC play at 12-2, while the Big Red improved to 23-10 overall and 11-3 in conference play.

In the opener, DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the third as Katie Mathies drove in Hanna Coffel with a sacrifice bunt before Libby Minobe singled home Goose Moore

Denison took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third as Indy Workman drove home Leilah Ferrari, Brianna Gonzalez scored on an error as Workman stole second. Workman then crossed home after Alessandra Groome singled.

Ferrari's sixth inning single scored Natalie Omahen and Madilyn Moffitt scored on a wild pitch to finish the scoring.

Minobe, Kelsey Bernhard and Riley Depa each had one hit for DePauw, while Ferrari had two of the Big Red's eight hits.

Depa dropped to 9-5, while Brooke Surbaugh improved to 9-6 and Moffitt collected her fifth save.

Denison took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second of game two as Surbaugh led off with a homer. The Tigers gained their first lead of the game in the third as Mathies doubled home Ella Kuenster and Moore came home on Emily Timberman's sacrifice fly.

The Big Red came right back in the bottom of the third as Groome and Annabelle Calderon had back-to-back RBI doubles before Surbaugh drove in Calderon with a single to make it 4-2.

Macey Cox and Minobe led off the seventh with singles and Ella Kuenster advanced them with a sacrifice bunt. Moore scored Cox with a grounder, but the Tigers were retired with a fly out to end the contest.

Moore had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Groome and Surbaugh each had two of the Big Red's five hits.

Peyton Rohr dropped to 11-5, while Sydney Silverstein moved to 10-3 and Giavanna Gangi notched her first save.

The Tigers' home doubleheader against Spalding is canceled and DePauw opens NCAC Tournament play on Thursday, May 9, with a 12:30 p.m.game against Wittenberg at DePauw.
