Greencastle, Ind. - In voting by the conference's coaches, six DePauw student-athletes were selected to the all-North Coast Athletic Conference softball team including a pair who garnered the league's top awards.
Alex Romero-Salas (So., Paranaque City, Philippines/Calvert Academy) was selected as the conference's Pitcher of the Year after posting a 3-0 record with two saves in NCAC games with a 1.54 earned run average. She appeared in 10 of the Tigers' 14 conference contests and struck out 40 in 41.0 innings with just seven walks.
Riley Depa (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) was named the Newcomer of the Year after recording an 8-1 record in NCAC games with a 1.18 ERA. She struck out 24 in 35 2/3 innings while appearing in nine games.
Joining Romero-Salas and Depa on the first team were first baseman
Katie Mathies (Jr., Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville) and third baseman
Emily Timberman (Sr., Fishers, Ind./Cathedral).
Mathies batted .405 with two homers and 17 RBI in 14 conference games and added six doubles and two triples for an .838 slugging percentage. Mathies was a first team choice in 2023.
Timberman hit .447 in 14 league games with two homers and 17 RBI and slugged .684 as she also hit three doubles.Â
A pair of outfielders were selected to the second team as
Ella Kuenster (So., Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and
Ella Ohrvall (So., Carmel, Ind./Carmel) earned the distinction.
Kuenster batted .469 in 12 conference games with 12 runs scored and 7 runs batted in. She slugged .719 with two doubles and three triples and was successful on all four steal attempts.
Ohrvall hit .467 in 14 conference contests while scoring 15 runs and driving in two. She was successful on all nine steal attempts.
The Tigers won their record ninth NCAC title including a fifth consecutive and, on Sunday, won their record seventh NCAC Tournament championship.
DePauw hosts an NCAA Division III Regional May 16-18 and the Tigers open play at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow against Saint Mary's (Minn.).
