Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Oberlin outscored DePauw, 3-0, in the fourth quarter and held on for a 9-7 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over the Tigers. DePauw finished the season at 8-8 overall and 2-6 in the NCAC, while Oberlin moved to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
The teams exchanged goals in the opening 15 minutes and were tied, 2-2, at the quarter break. The Yeomen scored three straight in the second to grab a 5-2 lead, but
Henry White's score with 1:01 left in the half trimmed the deficit to 5-2.
Jack Flynn,
Gavin Berry and
Connor Gibson each scored in the third to give the Tigers a 6-5 advantage with 1:03 remaining. Jacob Starcke stopped the run with 29 seconds left, but Berry put the Tigers back in front with eight seconds left in the period. Oberlin converted three times in the fourth, while the Tigers were held scoreless.
Flynn led DePauw with three goals, while Berry finished with two along with two assists. Gibson's goal was his 35th of the season and broke the program single-season record held by Will Roberts (2021) and Andrew Wright (2015).
Starcke had five of Oberlin's nine goals with Jack Duffy adding a pair.
Anthony Reiinhardt recorded 10 saves in goal for DePauw, while Oberlin's Jake Pillsbury stopped 10 DePauw shots.
Berry and
Matthew Roman each had six ground balls for the Tigers with Berry finishing with four caused turnovers.
Trevor Flynn won 10-of-16 faceoffs for Oberlin and recorded a team-high nine ground balls. Jake Fields led the way with five caused turnovers.
DePauw outshot Oberlin, 32-31, but the Yeomen held a narrow, 19-17, edge in shots on goal. The Tigers led in ground balls, 40-34 and Oberlin had 25 turnovers to DePauw's 22, but the visitors won 12 of the 19 faceoffs.
