Tigers Shutdown a Little Giants Comeback in 6-3 Home Win

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's tennis team remains undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference play after a tightly contested 6-3 home victory over Wabash College. The Tigers improved to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in NCAC play, while the Little Giants fell to 10-7 and 2-1 in conference play.

In doubles play, the Tigers took an early 2-1 lead over the Little Giants. Hudson Mosher and Chase Hutchinson earned DePauw's first victory of the evening, beating Wabash's Rafael Rin and Tharakesh Ashokar 8-5 on court three. On court two, Ryan McCook and Wils Warren defeated Cole Borden and Ethan Koeneman 8-4 to put the Tigers up by two. Wabash's Cole Shifferly and Augusto Ghidni would put the Little Giants on the board after coming from behind to beat DePauw's Finley Buelte and Teagen Crow 8-7 (9-7) on court one.

Samuele Pia on court two and Ryan McCook on court three helped push the Tigers to a 4-1 lead with four matches left to be decided. Pia beat Augusto Ghidni 6-3, 6-2, while McCook defeated the Little Giants' Cold Borden 6-2, 6-4. Despite its three-match lead, Wabash battled back and won its singles matches on courts four and five. The Little Giant's Tharakesh Ashokar defeated Jake Louiselle 6-2, 6-6 (3-0) on court four, while Rafael Rin came from behind to beat Scott Anderson 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 on court five.

With two matches left and DePauw up 4-3, it was anyone's match to win. On court one and six, the matches were determined by a tiebreaker. With each rally, the points see-sawed back and forth, keeping the two teams on their toes. Finally, the Tigers managed to string a couple of points to take both matches to beat the Little Giants. Clinching the win for DePauw was Finley Buelte, who beat Cole Shifferly 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 on court one. When Buelte wrapped, he and his teammate gathered to watch Grayson Zylstra hold off Vittorio Bona in a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
