Delaware, Ohio - Ohio Wesleyan used a 16-0 run in the second period to pull away from DePauw and the Battling Bishops held on for a 74-64 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 16-6 overall and 9-2 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan improved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play.
Ohio Wesleyan held a 13-12 lead after the first period and the game was tied 14-14 early in the second before the Battling Bishops scored the next 16. During the stretch, the hosts hit 3-of-5 from the field including a pair of threes while knocking in all eight free throws. The Tigers missed all six field goals and committed four turnovers in that same time. The Battling Bishops held a 31-18 lead at the intermission.
The Battling Bishops led by as many as 16 at 39-23 after Kasey Schipfer buried a three with 7:12 left in the third. They still led by 16 at 43-27 before the Tigers closed the period with a 15-6 run to cut the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 49-42.
DePauw was within three at 50-47 after
Tori Allen's three-point play with 6:38 remaining. Ohio Wesleyan then scored the next six to push the lead back to nine. Allen's 3-pointer at the 4:24 mark brought DePauw within three again at 56-53, but again Ohio Wesleyan countered with a 6-0 run to make it 62-53.The Battling Bishops made all eight free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
Allen paced DePauw with 16 points, while
Riley Mont added 12 points and six rebounds.
Moira McGinley handed out three assists.
Schipfer led Ohio Wesleyan with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Elizabeth Homan followed with 12 points and Alyssa Griner added 10. Lauren Dension led the team with three assists and three steals.
DePauw shot 36.5 percent from the field to Ohio Wesleyan's 42.6 percent and the hosts outrebounded DePauw 36-30 while committing 10 turnovers to the Battling Bishops' 17.
The Tigers host Denison at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
