Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored four goals in a 4:13 stretch of the second period which put the Tigers on a path to an 8-5 victory over Kalamazoo in DePauw's home opener. The Tigers improved to 1-1, while the Hornets dropped to 0-1.
DePauw opened the scoring with 11:16 left in the first quarter as
Beckett Tasker scored on an assist from
Jack Neff. Kalamazoo evened the score on Jake Asnis' goal with an assist from Max Plesscher.
The Tigers took the lead for good on
Henry White's man-up goal from
Jack Flynn with 1:24 remaining in the first. White returned the favor by assisting Flynn just 1:13 into the second before White scored on Tasker's assist with 10:53 left in the half.
Collin Kilpatrick made it 5-1 on Flynn's assist at 9:45 before
Eli Federman scored just 11 seconds later to make it 6-1.
White scored with 12:37 left in the third on
Connor Gibson's feed before Kalamazoo countered with goals from Cam VanGalder and Asnis to make it 7-3.
The Tigers' final score came with 6:20 remaining as Gibson scored on White's assist. The Hornets added two scores in the final 10 seconds for the final margin.
DePauw outshot Kalamazoo, 32-30, with the Hornets leading in shots on goal, 17-16. The Tigers totaled 37 ground balls to Kalamazoo's 33. The Tigers won six of the 13 faceoffs and committed 25 turnovers to the Hornets' 21.
Anthony Reinhardt totaled 12 saves for DePauw, while Eric Paternoster had two for Kalamazoo and Larson Makie finished with six.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 2, with a 2 p.m. CST game at North Central (Ill.).
