Greencastle, Ind. - Top-seed DePauw shot 51.7 percent from the field and advanced to its 12th North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal in as many years with an 82-47 quarterfinal victory over eighth-seed Wooster. The Tigers improved to 19-7, while the Fighting Scots finished their season at 6-20.
DePauw hosts fourth-seed Denison on Friday, Feb. 23, in the 7 p.m. semifinal game after the Big Red topped Oberlin, 75-60. Second-seed Wittenberg and third-seed Ohio Wesleyan square off in the 5 p.m. semifinal contest in Neal Fieldhouse. Wittenberg was an 80-39 quarterfinal winner over Kenyon, while OWU doubled up Hiram, 90-45.Â
In this evening's quarterfinal contest, the Tigers and Fighting Scots went back and forth for the first three minutes before DePauw scored nine straight to take the lead for good. The Tigers closed the opening period on an 8-1 run for a 23-12 lead at the quarter break. DePauw then scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to cap an 18-1 stretch and push the lead to 33-12. The Tigers' lead reached as many as 38 in the closing minute.
Diana Burgher and
Moira McGinley led DePauw with 12 points apiece with Burgher grabbing nine rebounds.
Ainsley Boras followed with 11 points.
Alexis Lovejoy totaled 15 points for Wooster with Alyssa Chritz grabbing seven rebounds.Â
The Tigers hit 51.7 percent from the field to Wooster's 30.8 percent and DePauw held a 39-23 rebounding edge while committing 12 turnovers Wooster's 21.
