Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a 19-point lead in the first 11 minutes of its North Coast Athletic Conference game against visiting Hiram and held on for an 89-67 win over the Terriers. The Tigers improved to 12-13 overall and finished NCAC play at 7-9, while Hiram wrapped up its season at 2-23 overall and 0-16 in conference play. DePauw is the seventh-seed for the NCAC Tournament and travels to Wooster for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
DePauw scored 15 straight in the first half to expand a four-point lead to 19 at 26-7 with 9:52 left. The Terriers were as close as 14 the remainder of the half and DePauw's lead at the half was 49-29. The Tigers' lead reached as many as 30 at 75-45 and Hiram was no closer than 18.
Grant Niego led DePauw with 16 points, while
Casey Kaelin scored a career-high 15.
Caleb Washington added 11 and
Camden Brown finished with 10.
Ryan Jacobson,
Reph Stevenson and Kaelin each grabbed six rebounds with
Ronald Johnson and Niego dishing out four assists each.
Trent Jakacki paced Hiram with 20 points and James Moore added 10. Tristan Martin-Marshall and Manuel Devora Violan hauled down four rebounds each, while Moore recorded four steals and Martin-Marshall blocked four shots.
DePauw shot 50 percent from the field to Hiram's 35.6 percent. DePauw held a 48-26 rebounding edge and committed 13 turnovers to Hiram's nine.Â
