13 Tigers Selected to D3football.com All-Region Team

Greencastle, Ind. - Thirteen DePauw student-athletes were recognized by D3football.com with selections to its all-Region 4 team which was the most of any Division III school this year.

Earning first team honors were quarterback Nathan McCahill (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), tight end Gabe Quigley (Sr., Carmel, Ind./Carmel), wide receiver Robby Ballentine (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean), linebacker Jonathan Bruder (Sr., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) and corner back Matthew Coons (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard).  

McCahill, who was earlier voted the North Coast Athletic Conference Mike Gregory Award recipient as the conference's offensive player of the year, finished the regular season with a school and NCAC record 43 touchdown passes while completing 70.9 percent (183-258) of his passes for 2,854 yards. His 216.5 pass efficiency rating in the regular season led Division III. He also broke a DePauw record and tied an NCAC mark with seven touchdown passes at Kenyon. McCahill was a first team all-NCAC choice this year and second team choice in 2023.

Quigley, a second team all-region selection in 2023, totaled 42 regular-season catches for 730 yards and 13 touchdowns. Earlier he was named AFCA All-America first team and first team all-NCAC after earning second team in 2023. 

Ballentine, who repeated first team all-NCAC honors this year, led DePauw in the regular season with 59 receptions for 845 yards and a school-record 17 touchdown catches. That tied an NCAC record which he broke with two scores in the NCAA second-round win over Maryville.

Bruder was voted the NCAC's Hank Critchfield Award recipient as the league's defensive player of the year and, through the regular season, led the Tigers with 62 tackles including 1.5 sacks for six yards and 6.0 tackles for losses totaling 16 yards. He had two interceptions including one against Denison that he returned 70 yards for a touchdown. Bruder repeated as a first team all-NCACselection and also was a third team honoree in 2022.

Coons, a third team all-region selection in 2023, tied for fourth on the squad with 33 tackles including 0.5 sacks for four yards. He had a pair of interceptions and shared the team lead with nine pass breakups. A three-time all-NCAC selection, Coons garnered first team honors this year for the second straight season.

Five Tigers earned spots on the second team including offensive tackle Tommy Martin (Sr., Geneva, Ill/Geneva), center Zach Kerr (So. West Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic), nose tackle Ethan Lowry (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian), linebacker Joey Roland (Jr., Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) and safety Nolan Tully (Sr., Woodstock, Ga./Blessed Trinity).

Martin was a third team all-region selection in 2023 and, along with Kerr, anchored the offensive line that allowed just seven sacks which ranked 12th in Division III. Both were first team all-NCAC selections this year with Martin also garnering second team in 2023.

Lowry, a second team all-region choice last year, finished with 22 regular season tackles including 7.0 for losses of 20 yards and 3.0 sacks for 16 yards. He repeated as a first team all-NCAC selection and earned four all-conference honors in his career.

Roland, who was a first team all-NCAC pick, was second on the Tigers with 8.5 regular season sacks for 43 yards and tied for second with 10 tackles for losses of 50 yards. 

Tully earlier earned all-NCAC first team accolades for a third straight year and totaled 24 tackles including 3.5 for losses of 12 yards and had one interception.

Tigers on the third team were running back Caden Whitehead (Indianapolis, Ind./Park Tudor), offensive guard Bennett Smith (So., Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and defensive end Luke Nolan (Jr., Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville).

Whitehead, a first team all-NCAC choice this year, led the DePauw rushing attack with 855 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns during the regular season and topped the 100-yard plateau on four occasions including a career-high 199 in the Monon Bell game win.

Smith was part of the offensive line that allowed just seven sacks in the regular season and helped the Tigers to the fourth-ranked scoring offense and eighth-rated total offense through the first 10 games

Nolan, a first team all-NCAC selection in 2023 and 2024, finished the regular season with 33 tackles and led with 15.0 tackles for losses of 71 yards and a team-high 9.0 sacks for 52 yards. 

Only first and second team all-conference selections were eligible for nomination and only regular season statistics were to be considered.

In addition to the program's second straight 10-win season, the Tigers won a fourth straight NCAC title and made a fourth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance after going 8-0 in conference games. DePauw advanced to the Division III round of 16 for the second time in program history before losing to Johns Hopkins by a 14-9 score.
