Greencastle, Ind.- Four days after DePauw women's soccer fell to the College of Wooster on the road, the Tigers defeated the Fighting Scots in the North Coast Athletic Conference semifinal game at home in a stunning 1-0 victory. DePauw improves to 11-5-3 overall, while Wooster wraps its season with a record of 11-4-3.
Â
The second-seeded DePauw came out energized, quickly securing possession of the ball within the game's first minute. Controlling the game's pace early,
Eva Lynch cleared a ball in the Tigers' defensive end and positioned the ball right at the feet of junior forward
Ellie Mahan. Mahan would run through the pass and slip the ball past her last defender and the Fighting Scots keeper to put DePauw up 1-0 in the fourth minute of play.Â
Â
The Tigers held tight to its one-goal lead, collapsing on every advancement and calmly moving the ball down each sideline for the remainder of the game, ultimately shutting Wooster's offense. Despite the dominance in possession, the two teams were neck-and-neck in shots, saves, and corner-kick attempts.
Â
DePauw held an 8-6 edge in shots, but the two teams finished this highly contested matchup with the same amount of corner kick attempts- four. In goal for the Tigers was sophomore
Aubree Empie, who tallied three crucial saves that helped DePauw advance. Kameryn Nelson also wrapped the evening with three saves for the Fighting Scots.
Â
The Tigers return to Reavis Stadium on Saturday, November 9, and host the number four seed Wittenberg at 1 p.m. for the NCAC women's soccer championship game.
