Eau Claire, Wis.- The DePauw men's soccer team wrapped its season in Wisconsin after falling to Hope College 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
After a tightly contested scoreless first half, the Flying Dutch's Matt Davidson skipped a ball up to Seth Walters, who found a seam in the congested Tiger defensive end; finding the feet of teammate Seth Walters, who would ultimately score in the 56th minute to put Hope up 1-0. Unfortunately for DePauw, the Flying Dutch controlled the match's pace from then on. By slowing the game's speed and winning most of the 50-50 balls, the Flying Dutch stopped the typically aggressive Tiger offense in its tracks.
The Tigers continued to fight for possession of the ball as time ticked down; however, in the 79th minute, Hope would extend its lead to two goals, shutting down DePauw's chances to claw back. The Flying Dutch finished the evening outshooting the Tigers 9-3 and tied DePauw in corner kick attempts with four apiece. In goal for DePauw,
Sam Ortner finished the match with four saves, while Hope's Daniel Hesselbein tallied three.
The Tigers complete the year with an overall record of 10-5-6, while the Flying Dutch improve to 14-2-3 and face host school #7 UW Eau-Claire in the second ro
