Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's soccer team fell short in its 3-2 loss to top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers dropped to 9-4-4 overall and 3-2-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Battling Bishops maintained their unblemished conference record, improving to 6-0-1 in conference matches and 11-3-2 overall.

DePauw played a tightly contested game against Ohio Wesleyan from the start, flying around the pitch, looking to win every fifty-fifty ball. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Battling Bishops kept their composure and scored back-to-back goals in the 31st and 32nd minutes of play. Down 2-0 at the half, DePauw came out strong, looking to cut Ohio Wesleyan's lead in half.Â

The Tigers finally got on the board in the 51st minute after
Braden Murphey was fouled in the goalie box and put away a penalty kick to cut the Battling Bishops' lead to one. Despite momentum shifting in favor of DePauw, Ohio Wesleyan regained a two-goal lead in the 61st minute following an unsuccessful clear attempt off a corner for goal number three.

Down 3-1 with just under 30 minutes to play, junior
Tye Williams came off the bench and quickly found
Sebastian Leon, who deflected William's pass into the Battling Bishops net to bring DePauw back within one. Though the Tigers continued to fight for possession in the match's final minutes, Ohio Wesleyan continued to dictate the pace of the game and secure its sixth NCAC victory of the season.

The Tigers finished the evening outshooting the Battling Bishops 14-12. However, Ohio Wesleyan held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-5 edge in corner kick attempts. In goal for DePauw,
Sam Ortner tallied six saves across the night, while the Battling Bishops' Sam Whitman recorded two saves.

DePauw wraps up regular season play in Wooster, Ohio, on Saturday, November 2. The Tigers and the Fighting Scots will take the field at 12 p.m. EDT.
