Hiram, Ohio - DePauw shot 57.7 percent in the second half and pulled away from host Hiram for a 70-56 North Coast Athletic Conference win. The Tigers moved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC, while the Terriers dropped to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Hiram jumped out to a seven-point lead on a couple of occasions in the first period, but DePauw closed with a 13-3 run to take a 16-15 lead. DePauw stretched the lead to four early in the second before Hiram scored eight straight to take a 24-20 advantage. The Tigers finished the half with four straight and took a 27-26 lead into the break.
The lead went back-and-forth early in the third before DePauw broke a 31-31 deadlock with 3-pointers from
Ava Hassel and
Ainsley Boras. DePauw's lead reached as many as 10 after
Alina Prusko's basket in the final minute of the third, but Hiram's Maddie Rakestraw knocked in a three to make it 48-41 as the teams headed to the fourth.
DePauw pulled away in the final period as it opened with a 12-4 stretch to stretch the margin to 15 at 60-45. The Tigers were able to maintain a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Hassel paced DePauw with a season-high 21 points and six assists, while Boras followed with 10 points.
Olivia Hart grabbed seven rebounds as the Tigers held a 38-34 advantage on the boards.
Rakestraw and Anastasia Lawler each scored 13 for Hiram with Ava Mory chipping in 10. Mory and Diana Parsons each scored five and Lawler handed out four assists.
The Tigers shot 42.4 percent from the floor to Hiram's 35.8 percent and DePauw committed just seven turnovers to the Terriers' 14.
DePauw travels to Wittenberg on Wednesday, Jan. 10, for a 5 p.m. game.
