Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw set the tone early by scoring the game's first 18 points over the opening six minutes on the way to a 68-38 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Hiram. The Tigers moved to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in the NCAC to stay one-half game ahead of Wittenberg in the conference standings, while the Terriers dropped to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in league play.
Over a 5:09 stretch of the opening period, DePauw grabbed an 18-0 lead as all five starters scored with the Tigers hitting 8-of-10 from the field and holding Hiram to 0-for-5 shooting with six turnovers.
The Tigers took a 25-7 lead into the second period before Hiram closed to within 14 at 31-17. DePauw, however, closed the half with 10 straight points over the final 5:16 capped by
Tori Allen's three that beat the halftime buzzer to give the Tigers a 41-17 lead at the break. Hiram was no closer than 21 the rest of the way, while the Tigers' largest lead was 32.
Lily Huntzinger led 14 DePauw scorers with 10 points and added a team-high three assists, while
Olivia Hart grabbed six rebounds.
Brooke Hickman paced Hiram with 19 points and six rebounds with Maddie Rakestraw dishing out three assists.
DePauw shot 42.6 percent from the field to Hiram's 30.0 percent and the Tigers held a 41-27 rebounding edge. The Tigers committed 19 turnovers to Hiram's 27.
DePauw hosts Wittenberg on Wedneday, Jan. 31, in a 7 p.m. NCAC contest.
