Wooster, Ohio - DePauw split its two matches as it topped host Wooster 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-17, 25-13) and fell to Otterbein 3-2 (21-25. 25-23, 29-27, 18-25, 13-15). The Tigers are now 8-7 overall and 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
In the Wooster match, after the teams split the opening two sets, DePauw led all the way in the third and pulled away in the fourth for the win.
DePauw outhit Wooster, .244-.083 and held a 52-42 edge in kills.
Katie Gansle and
Kaiden Harrington each had 11 kills for the Tigers, while Tamara Turner and Caroline Dillard each had 10 kills for the Fighting Scots.
Olivia Karwin led DePauw with 23 assists and Ty Thompson had 15 for Wooster. DePauw led in service aces, 9-3, as
Kendall Herrick recorded four for the Tigers amd
Grace Myers had three.
Myers notched a team-high 22 digs with
Ashley Haas totaling four block assists. Trinity Harmon led Wooster with 23 digs and Troy Johnson had three block assists.
In the Otterbein match there were 29 ties and 14 lead changes as DePauw dropped the opening set but came back to take a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals won the fourth set and held a 14-10 lead in the fifth before the Tigers fought off three match points before falling.
Otterbein outhit DePauw, .194-.177 and led in kills, 67-55. Karwin led DePauw with 17 kills and Herrick had 24 assists, while Morgan Hartman paced Otterbein with 25 kills and Olivia Vitaz and Kailey Misher each had 25 assists.
The Cardinals held a 12-7 lead in aces with Madison McCoy finishing with five. Myers led the Tigers with three. Myers also had a team-high 21 digs and
Lauren Ridgway totaled eight blocks (2 solos, 6 assists). Amanda Troyer had 26 digs for Otterbein and Kristen Scherger finished with five block assists.
DePauw hosts Spalding on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
