Fond du Lac, Wis.- Three different Tigers scored in DePauw field hockey's 3-1 victory over the Marian University Sabres. The Tigers improved to 3-3 overall, while the Sabres dropped to 2-2 for the season.
DePauw jumped on the board two minutes into the first quarter when
Lilly Harris fed a ball to
Ella Morris for Morris' first collegiate goal. The Tigers' second goal came in the second quarter when
Hailey Nowak beat her defender and slipped a pass to
Amy Apfelbaum for her fourth goal of the season.
The Sabres would cut the Tigers lead in half in the 42nd minute of play when Marian's Allyson Nichols collected a pass from teammate Jikke Biemans and found the back of DePauw's cage.
Less than a minute later, Apfelbaum and Nowak worked together again to score the Tigers' final goal of the game. This time, Nowak received the pass from Apfelbaum to score and put the Tigers up 3-1.
DePauw finished the afternoon outshooting Marian 11-9, with both teams tallying eight shots on goal. The Tigers also had an edge over the Sabres in penalty corners, earning seven penalty corners to Marian's two.
In the cage for DePauw,
Scarlett Oaks recorded seven saves, while the Sabres' Emilee Clarey tallied five saves for the afternoon.
The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, September 17, in Mequon, Wis., to play Concordia (Wis.) at 12 p.m. CDT.
