Greencastle, Ind. - After falling 3-2 in the opener, DePauw strung together a four-run sixth inning in game two for an 8-2 victory, splitting its midweek doubleheader against the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans. The Tigers moved to 16-19 overall, while the Titans are now 23-14.

In the opener, the two teams were scoreless until the fifth inning. The Titans' picked up three runs in the top of the fifth, with Casey Wissmiller getting on base off a single up the middle. The next play Wissmiller advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt by Megan Fontanetta and eventually came in for Illinois Wesleyan's first run of the afternoon after Jen Kuhn doubled up the center field. The Titans would knock in two more runs with just two outs after Madison Moore's single down the left side scored Maya Black and Kuhn.

Down 3-0 with two and a half innings left in game one, the Tigers got on the board after

Macey Cox. DePauw held Illinois Wesleyan to no hits and one left on in the top of the sixth, and
Ella Kuenster's single set teammate
Ella Ohrvall up to score following an error by the Titan's second baseman to put DePauw within one.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Illinois Wesleyan made quick work of DePauw in the bottom of the seventh, winning game one, 3-2.

Lily Jennings and Ohrvall each recorded two of DePauw's six hits of the afternoon. For Illinois Wesleyan, Black and Moore each finished with two of the Titans' six hits of the day.

Alex Romero-Salas took the loss and dropped to 0-2, while Illinois Wesleyan's Gianna Certa earned the win and improved to 2-3, and Caroline Gatchell earned her first save of the season.

In game two, DePauw got on the board in the first on
Riley Heim's RBI single through the left side, bringing home Ohrvall for a 1-0 Tiger lead. Illinois Wesleyan would knot the game at one in the third after Moore's sacrifice fly to right field gave Kuhn enough time to tag up and score.

Across the third and fourth innings, DePauw tacked on three more runs, putting the Tigers up 4-1 midway through game two. In the fifth inning, both teams shut down the other's offense; however, in the top of the sixth, the Titans' Ava Khoury homered to center field, cutting DePauw's lead in half.Â

Up 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers' batted in four runs from five hits. With one out and a player on second,
Emily Timberman battled at the plate and blasted a two-run homer to put DePauw up 6-2, and off the very next pitch,
Katie Mathies hit a solo home run. The Tigers' final run of the evening came off a single by
Caelan Moran, scoring
Abby Pyburn for an 8-2 victory.Â

Ashtyn Barnett each had two of the Tigers' 12 hits, and Heim, Mathies, and Timberman led DePauw with two RBIs each. Black led Illinois Wesleyan in hits with two of its five hits.

Megan Asher earned the win and improved to 9-9 overall, while Nina Mardejetko dropped to 12-8.

DePauw returns to action on Friday, May 5, for a doubleheader against Denison. Game one between the Tigers and the Big Red is set to start at 4 p.m.Â
