Granville, Ohio- The DePauw women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to three-seed Wittenberg University in the North Coast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals matchup.
Wittenberg jumped to a one-match lead in doubles after Ashley Isaac and Caroline Sproule beat DePauw's
Kiley Shaw and
Sonal Matta 8-3 on court one. On court three, Wittenberg's Kelsey Smith and Claire Stechow defeated
Alex Preston and
Valerie Doherty 8-4. Wittenberg completed the doubles sweep off a tiebreaker where Paige Meyers and Claire Sullivan beat
Ellen Gardner and
Kat Wilder 8-7 (7-5) on court two.
In singles play, the Wittenberg Tigers took a 4-0 lead after Matta fell to Sproule 6-0, 6-0 on court two. On court four, Doherty beat Wittenberg's Sullivan, 6-0, 6-0; on court five, Shaw battled for her 7-5, 6-2 win over Smith. Unfortunately for DePauw, Meyers clinched the quarterfinals for the Wittenberg Tigers after defeating Wilder 6-1, 7-5 on court three.
The DePauw Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 5-15, while the Wittenberg Tigers improved to 10-9.
