Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw scored one in the eighth and six in the ninth in the nightcap to rally for an 11-8 win over Manchester after dropping game one, 12-5. The 3-4 Tigers and 5-2 Spartans wrap up their three-game series tomorrow with a Noon game at Bishop Chatard High School.
In the opener, the Tigers scored two each in the first two innings for a 4-1 lead, but Manchester scored seven in the bottom of the third and never trailed.
Seven different DePauw players collected one hit apiece, while Joel Kennedy led Manchester with four of their 16 hits.
Michael Vallone dropped to 1-2 with the loss, while Zach White improved to 2-0.
In the second game, the Tigers again jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Danny Glimco hit a two-run homer in the first, but Manchester scored one in the bottom of the first, six in the third and one in the fourth to take an 8-2 advantage.
DePauw's rally started in the sixth as
Eli Bell hit a two-run homer before
Hunter Hrbek hit a solo homer in the eighth to close the gap to 8-5.
Carter Knoll and
Cameron Macon each had two-run doubles in the ninth before Glimco hit another two-run blast to make it 11-8.
Ben Greiner, Macon, Glimco and Hrbek each had two of DePauw's 13 hits. Aidan Stevens and White each had two of Manchester's eight hits.
Nathan Fackel collected the win to improved to 1-1 after 2 2/3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief. Carter Hooks dropped to 2-1.
