DePauw's Men in Fifth at NCAC Championships

Granville, Ohio- Two days into the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, the DePauw men's swimming team sits in fifth place with 311.5 points. Denison leads the field with 691, while Kenyon is second with 651. Wabash is third with 359.5, and Wooster is fourth with 343.5 points.

Ben Hilfinger, Brock Kinnamon, Patrick Unterreiner, and Braden Mallery opened the meet on Wednesday evening with a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay after finishing in 6:54.36, which was about nine seconds faster than their seed time.

After day one, the Tigers tallied just 56 points after being disqualified in the 200-yard medley relay; however, they kept looking forward and bounced back on Thursday with crucial top-three finishes in the 200-yard free relay and the 50-yard free. Earning DePauw's lone first-place finish, Hilfinger swam the 50-yard free in 20.17, which met the NCAA B-cut (20.51) and tied the program record.

DePauw wrapped day two of the NCAC Championships with a third-place finish in the 200-yard free relay, with James Shorney, Michael Ray, Robbie Sheffield, and Hilfinger finishing with a time of 1:22.70.

The Championships continue Friday and Saturday at Denison University.
