Greencastle, Ind. - Ohio Wesleyan shot 53 percent in the opening half and built an 11-point halftime lead on the way to a 79-66 win over DePauw in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal. DePauw finished the season at 19-8 as its 12-game win streak came to an end. Ohio Wesleyan improved to 17-10 and advanced to the tournament championship game. The Battling Bishops face Oberlin in tomorrow's 4 p.m. title game after the Yeowomen topped Wittenberg, 63-57, in the first semifinal game.
DePauw never led in the contest as Ohio Wesleyan scored the final five points of the opening period in gaining a 23-13 lead after the first period. The margin reached as many as 13 points in the second period and the guests took a 46-35 halftime lead.
In the opening four minutes of the third, Ohio Wesleyan pushed the lead to 18 with a 9-2 run. DePauw got no closer than 14 and Elizabeth Homan knocked in a deep, buzzer-beating three to make it 66-49. The Tigers were no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Diana Burgher scored a career-high 19 points and led DePauw with seven rebounds, while
Lily Huntzinger scored 10. Kasey Schipfer paced Ohio Wesleyan with 24 points followed by Lauren Denison with 16 and 11 apiece from Karlee Ross and Homan. Ross hauled down eight rebounds and Schipfer dished out five assists.
