Camden Brown's basket near the end of regulation forced overtime and
Elijah Hales' three-point play with 13 seconds left in the extra session gave the Tigers the lead for good in an 88-85 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Oberlin. DePauw improved to 16-8 overall and 8-7 in the NCAC, while the Yeomen dropped to 7-16 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
DePauw used a 13-2 run in the first half to take its largest lead of the game at 30-16. Oberlin scored the next nine to trim the margin to five. The Tigers held an eight-point lead late in the half before Oberlin put together an 11-0 stretch and eventually went to halftime with a 40-37 lead.
The Tigers were within three points at 55-52 at the 8:55 mark, but Oberlin outscored DePauw 15-2 over a 2:22 stretch to take a 70-54 advantage with 6:15 left in regulation.
DePauw started its climb back with 10 straight points over the next 1:49 to close the gap to 70-64 with 4:06 left. The Yeomen still led by five before Brown hit a 3-pointer with 34 seconds left to cut the Oberlin lead to 79-77. The hosts missed the front end of a one-and-one and DePauw rebounded with Brown scoring the game-tying driving layup with 10 seconds left. Oberlin was unable to get a shot off and the teams headed to overtime.
Oberlin gained an 85-82 lead with less than two minutes left before
Sam Jacobs scored with 47 seconds left and Hales converted a Yeomen turnover into a three-point play giving DePauw an 87-85 lead with 13 seconds remaining. Oberlin missed a possible game-tying shot before
Grant Niego hit one-of-two free throws with .2 seconds left.
Brown matched a career high with 24 points with Hales adding 17.
Grant Niego finished with 14 and Jacobs 11.
Grant Niego grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and dished out a career-high eight assists.
Anastasis Spyroglou led Oberlin with 22 points with Dorde Otasevic posting a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds. Asaan Snipes-Rea scored 14 and Dimitrije Radusinovic added 11. Yuuki Okubo handed out seven assists.
DePauw shot 42.7 percent from the field to Oberlin's 39.2 percent and each team had 46 rebounds.
The Tigers face Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.
