Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a 12-0 lead and held visiting Franklin without a field goal for the first 12 minutes and captured the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament championship with an 82-52 win over the Grizzlies. The Tigers moved to 8-4 on the season, while the Grizzlies dropped to 8-3.
The Tigers set the tone by scoring on each of their first three possessions and stretched the lead to 12-0 before Franklin hit a free throw with 3:01 left in the opening stanza. The Tigers scored the final five points of the period for a 22-3 lead. DePauw's advantage reached 24 at 27-3 before the Grizzlies hit their first field goal with 7:55 remaining in the half. The Tigers extended the margin to as many as 31 before heading to the intermission with a 43-14 lead.
After Franklin opened the second half with a free throw, DePauw scored 13 straight to push the lead to 56-15. The Tigers' largest lead was 46 on two occasions early in the fourth before the Grizzlies closed the game on an 18-2 run.
Alina Prusko led all scorers with a career-high 15 points, while
Riley Mont followed with 14.
Ava Hassel finished with 12 and
Tori Allen added 10.
Diana Burgher led the Tigers with seven rebounds with Allen dishing out a career-best five assists and
Lyla Barr recording a career-high five steals.Â
Jordan Coon led Franklin with nine points, while CiCi Bailey and Megan Kain each grabbed six rebounds.Â
DePauw shot 47.1 percent from the field to Franklin's 22.0 and the Tigers outrebounded the Grizzlies, 56-31.
Hassel was the tournament most valuable player, while Prusko and Coon earned spots on the all-tournament team.
Lake Forest won the third-place game by a 73-66 score over Lakeland. Maurissa Edwards of Lake Forest and Lakeland's A.T. Barrett were chosen to the all-tournament team.
DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 3, with a 6 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference home game against Ohio Wesleyan.
