DePauw Tops Rose-Hulman; Finishes Third at Midwest Challenge

Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw held off Rose-Hulman in the closing minutes and finished third at the Midwest Challenge following a 76-70 win over the Fightin' Engineers. The Tigers improved to 2-3 overall, while the hosts dropped to 1-4.

The teams fought through a tight first period with DePauw holding a 19-15 lead after the opening stanza.  The Tigers grabbed a 36-22 lead in the second before Rose-Hulman closed the gap to 40-29 at halftime.

The Tigers expanded the lead to as many as 16 in the third period before Rose-Hulman closed the gap to 11 at 59-48 as the teams headed to the final period.

In the opening four minutes of the fourth, the Tigers pushed the lead back to 14 at 66-52 before Rose-Hulman scored the next seven to make it 66-59 with 3:40 remaining. The Fightin' Engineers were as close as four on two occasions, but the Tigers held on for the win.

Tori Allen scored a career-high 23 points including 16 in the second half, while Ava Hassel followed with 18 and Riley Mont 16. Lyla Barr paced DePauw with six rebounds and Lily Huntzinger dished out four assists and Hassel had three steals.

Manuella Shomba and Jamie Baum each had 18 points for Rose-Hulman with Grace Roland following with 12, Ashley Black with 11 and CK Gallegos-Rodriguez with 10. Shomba finished with eight rebounds and four steals, while Sophia Reese had four assists.

DePauw shot 45.6 percent from the floor and knocked in 8-of-16 3-pointers, while Rose-Hulman shot 43.4 percent. The Tigers held a 35-30 advantage on the boards.

DePauw returns to action on Friday when it faces Wisconsin-Oshkosh in WashU's McWilliams Classic. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. CST in St. Louis. The Tigers will take on Hanover on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. CST.
