DePauw Runs Win Streak to Three with Win at Berea

Berea, Ky. - DePauw held off several surges from host Berea and collected its third straight win with an 87-81 victory over the Mountaineers. The Tigers improved to 3-2, while Berea dropped to 2-2.

DePauw used a 15-2 run in the first half to extend a 1-point lead to 14 and the Tigers eventually took their largest lead of the contest at 30-14 after Brady Kunka hit one of two free throws. The hosts, however, closed the half with a 16-5 stretch including scoring the final four points of the half to cut the deficit to 35-30 at the break.

Berea regained the lead at 41-40 after a three-pointer from Demetrius Phillips with 14:41 left. Reph Stevenson's layup started an 8-0 run that gave the Tigers a 49-41 lead with 12:06 remaining.

The Mountaineers again chipped away and cut the DePauw lead to 54-52 following Bryce Riley's basket with 8:42 left. DePauw went on another 8-0 run as Camden Brown hit two free throws and back-to-back threes. Berea was within five, but Cooper Horn nailed a three and Brown scored in the paint to push the lead back to double digits.

Berea got as close as six after Andrew Jones scored with 27 seconds remaining, but Horn hit two free throws to seal the win.

Six Tigers scored in double figures led by Grant Niego with 18 and Caleb Washington and Horn with 13 each. Brown followed with 12, while Stevenson scored 11 and Ronald Johnson 10. Brown added 10 rebounds for a double-double and Niego dished out eight assists and totaled three steals.

Kevion Hudson paced Berea with 29 points followed by Marquis Mackey with 15 and Riley with 13. Mackey had four rebounds.

DePauw shot 51.0 percent from the field to Berea's 44.4 percent and the Tigers outscored the Mountaineers from the line, 31-8. DePauw also held a commanding 46-23 edge on the boards.

DePauw travels to Wabash on Wednesday, Nov. 29, for a 7 p.m. contest.
