Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers Downed by Owls in NCAC Semifinal

Gambier, Ohio- In its first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament appearance since 2016, the DePauw men's soccer team fell 3-1 in its semifinal matchup against top-seeded Kenyon. The Tigers completed their first season with an overall record of 7-7-4, while the Owls improved to 15-3.

In the first half, defense on both ends kept the matchup close with neither team finding the back of the net before halftime. After a tightly contested first half of play and the game tied 0-0, the tables quickly turned in favor of the Owls when Eamon Dujakovich scored Kenyon's first of three goals just 35 seconds into the second half.

Up 1-0 with plenty of time left in the half, the Owls bombarded the Tigers' defensive line, isolating defenders and ultimately creating two more scoring opportunities for Kenyon's Max Thesing and Gerardo Martinez to extend its lead to 3-0.

In the 79th minute of play, a hustle play by senior Samuel Renggli created DePauw's lone goal opportunity. Renggli managed to break free of his defender and find an opening in the Tigers' attacking third. He then sent a skip pass up the middle to Ethan Webster, where Webster's touch was just enough to sneak it past the Owls' keeper to cut Kenyon's lead to two.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, the spark of offensive energy came too late, resulting in a 3-1 loss to wrap up the 2023 season. The Owls finished the afternoon outshooting DePauw 14-6; however, the Tigers had an edge in corner kicks with four while giving up three on its defensive end. In goal for the Tigers, junior goalkeeper Alexander Lundin finished with four saves, while Kenyon's Jack Pedreschi recorded one save.
