Hiram, Ohio - Hiram scored eight-straight over a 1:18 stretch of the second half to push a seven-point lead to 15 on the way to a 69-58 North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 14-6 overall and 6-5 in the NCAC, while the Terriers improved to 10-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
Six ties and five lead changes highlighted the first half with DePauw leading by as many as four and the hosts by as many as five before Hiram took a 31-30 halftime lead. Hiram held a 45-43 advantage in the opening eight minutes of the second half and then went on an 8-0 run to push the margin to double digits for the first time in the game at 53-43.
Elijah Hales stopped the run with a trey, but the Terriers went on an 11-2 tear to take their biggest lead of the game, 64-48, with just 4:34 left.Â
The Tigers put together a 7-0 stretch to cut the margin to nine with 3:23 left and were within eight at the 1:27 mark, but that's as close as they'd get the rest of the way.
Sam Jacobs paced DePauw with 14 points and Hales added 12, while
Ryan Jacobson and
Ronald Johnson each grabbed six rebounds. Brodgie Gordon paced Hiram with 19 points and four assists and Kevin Beans Jr. added 17. Ricky Esdel grabbed a game-high eight boards.
DePauw shot 40.7 percent from the floor to Hiram's 44.3 percent and the Terriers hit 10 3-pointers to DePauw's five.Â
The Tigers travel to Wabash on Wednesday, Feb. 1, for a 7 p.m. game against the Little Giants.
