Tigers Drop Dual in 191-82 Loss to the Bears

St. Louis, Mo.- The DePauw men's swimming team dropped its final road dual to the Washington University in St. Louis Bears 191-82. Despite the loss, the Tigers tallied 15 top-three finishes in nine races. 
 
Pacing the Tigers with two top-three finishes was James Shorney. Shorney finished second in the 100-yard free (48.42) and the 100-yard butterfly (55.51). Just behind him in the 100-yard butterfly was Ethan Spencer, who finished with a time of 56.52 for third. Brock Kinnamon would earn third in the 100-yard free with a time of 49.79.
 
Jimmy Anderson finished second in the 50-yard free with a time of 22.47, with Ethan Williams Fonner just behind him with a time of 22.88 for third place. Eric Herrera recorded a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.87), while Will Plumb (2:05.55) and Braden Mallery (2:07.87) took second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke.
 
In two more heats, the Tigers would earn second and third-place finishes. Alexander Bridgmohan finished second in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:03.39, and teammate Nathan Turner completed the race in 5:06.94 for third. The final two individual top-three finishes came in the 400-yard IM, where Evan Villeneuve and Patrick Unterreiner finished second and third. Villeneuve completed the race in 4:29.49, while Unterreiner finished in 4:31.90.
 
The Tigers closed out the meet with Robbie Sheffield, Anderson, Luke Christensen, and Shorney earning second in the 200-yard free relay in 1:29.08, followed by Ethan Marunde, Parker Fleischman-Ament, Williams Fonner, and Kinnamon finished third with a time of 1:31.18.
 
DePauw returns to Greencastle, Ind., on Saturday, Jan. 28, for its final home meet before conference championships. The Tigers host the University of Chicago Maroons on its senior day in Erdmann Natatorium at 1 p.m.
