Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw topped Franklin, 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 25-11), to improve to 3-2 on the season as head coach
Deb Zellers collected her 600th career win. Franklin dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
The Tigers and Grizzlies battled through a tight first set and DePauw extended the match lead to 2-0 after closing the second on a 9-1 run. Franklin won the third before the Tigers jumped out to leads of 7-1 and 16-4 in pulling away for the win.Â
The Tigers outhit the Grizzlies, .229-.104 including .312-(-.107) in the fourth set. DePauw also held a 43-38 edge in kills as
Katie Gansle led the way with 14.
Avery Christy assisted on 19 of the kills, while
Emma White had four of the Tigers' 13 aces with
Jessica Levy and
Grace Myers chipping in three each.Â
Myers led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while
Ashley Haas totaled three blocks.
Zellers, a 1992 DePauw graduate and in her 29th season at the helm at her alma mater, is the 15th active coach in Division III with at least 600 wins.
The Tigers return to the court on Friday, September 9, when they take on St. Mary's (Ind.) at 5:30 p.m. at Trine University.
