Olivet- Mich.- The DePauw men's soccer team found its stride early and often in its 5-1 road win over Olivet College.
Â
The Tigers' first goal of the afternoon came in the tenth minute of play off a slip pass by
Sam Thiel to
Quinn Flaspohler.
Â
Thiel would put in his own goal from 10 yards out at 18:38 off a pass from
James Maguire. Up 2-0 after the first half, in the 55th minute,
Emiliano Quintanilla found Thiel again to put the Tigers up 3-0.
Â
The Comets caught a break at 61:19 after capitalizing on a penalty Kick by Dominik Burmeister. With the Tigers' lead cut by a goal, Olivet turned up the pressure; however, it was not enough to stifle DePauw's offensive dominance.
Â
Jack Kirby gathered a pass from
Alex Backhaus in the 87th minute and found the back of the Comets' net to put the Tigers back up by three. Sealing DePauw's victory was a goal less than a minute after Kirby's by
Jack Powers, who took a one-touch pass from Thiel to put the Tigers up 5-1.
Â
DePauw outshot Olivet 14-11, while the Comets edge out the Tigers in total corners 6-5.Â
Olivet's Carlos Santos recorded five saves for the afternoon, while DePauw's
Alexander Lundin stopped three.
Â
The Tigers improve to 3-1-1 and return to Reavis Stadium on Wednesday, September 14, to take on Rose-Hulman at 7:30 pm.
