Geneva, Ohio- DePauw University Track and Field first-year Bennett DeCoursey completed his NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship run with a ninth-place finish in discus.
DeCoursey finished in the top ten after throwing a 49.53m in his second attempt. Winning the men's discus throw was Steven Hermsen of Carroll University (Wis.), who threw a 54.93m.
When asked how he felt heading into the championships and what he learned following his experience, DeCoursey said, "I was very excited and honored to be able to compete as a freshman. I was very excited but nervous leading up to the competition. I did not perform as well as I would have liked to, and I don't think I performed to the best of my ability."
"Some key takeaways from today were that the mental aspect of throwing is equally if not more important than your physical abilities. I know I have a lot more in me, and it's frustrating how the year ended but excited to continue to improve."
