Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. - In the 2022 home and North Coast Athletic Conference opening day, tenth-ranked DePauw swept a doubleheader from visiting Oberlin by scores of 10-1 and 11-3 with both games shortened to five innings due to the run rule.
In the opener, Paige Price and Grace Smith hit back-to-back homers to lead off the second before Chase Epp walked and pinch-runner Madi Lockridge later scored on Katerina Kilgore's sacrifice fly.
Oberlin's lone run came in the top of the third as Mia Brito led off with a double and later scored on Cat Moruzzi's double.
Kelsey Bernhard led off the third with a walk and stole second before Emma Konrad walked. Price drove home Bernhard with a single and Smith's sacrifice fly plated Kate Geary who ran for Konrad to make it 5-1.
DePauw scored five more in the fourth as Kilgore drew a one-out walk and Jade Mejia Wick followed with a homer down the left field line. Abby Pyburn singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Geary's single. Geary stole second and advance to third on an error before coming home on Price's single. Price scored after Smith reached on an error.
Price led the Tigers with three of their seven hits and also drove in three in the win. Three different Yeowomen totaled one hit each.
Cami Henry improved to 11-5 after allowing just one run and two hits with seven strikeouts in four innings. Alaina DiDio dropped to 2-3.
In the nightcap, Bernhard led off with a double and before Goose Moore reached on a bunt single and got in a rundown which allowed Bernhard to score. Drew Bratcher made it 3-0 with a two-run homer to left center.
Moore led off the third with a walk before Price singled. Bratcher's single scored Moore before Smith and Emily Minett each lifted sacrifice flies to push the lead to 6-0.
Oberlin scored three in the fourth on RBI singles by Kathryn Beeman, Katie Austin and Anna Slebonick.
The Tigers ended the contest with a five-run fifth as Mejia Wick walked and scored on Grace Smith's homer. Minett followed with a single and pinch-runner Macey Cox stole second before scoring on Lily Jennings double. Epp singled home Jennings and pinch-runner Riley Heim move to third on Bernhard's single before coming home on Moore's bunt single.
Bernhard, Moore, Bratcher, Minett and Jennings each had two of DePauw's 14 hits, while five different Oberlin players collected one each.
Henry moved to 12-5 after pitching three innings of hitless ball with six strikeouts. Austin dropped to 2-2.
The Tigers host Wooster tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
