Box Score 2 Columbus, Ga. - DePauw finished its competition at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Leadoff Classic with a 3-3 record after winning both games today. The Tigers topped Piedmont, 2-1, and then finished with a 3-1 victory over Berry. The Tigers are now 5-5 on the season.
Piedmont took a 1-0 lead in the first as Rebekah Stegmayer led off with an inside-the-park homer. The Tigers scored the decisive runs in the fifth as Paige Price reached on an error and pinch-runner Goose Moore scored on Drew Bratcher's double. Yasmin McClellan entered as a pinch-runner and moved to third on Katie Mathies' sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter Brooke Bruin then reached on a fielder's choice which brought home McClellan.
Price had two of DePauw's five hits, while Stegmayer had two of the Lions' six hits.
Cami Henry improved to 3-4 after striking out 11 in seven innings, while Martina Maloch dropped to 2-4.
In the win over Berry, the Tigers scored all three runs in the third as Jade Mejia Wick singled and stole second before Kelsey Bernhard delivered an RBI single. Later in the inning, Emily Timberman singled home Grace Smith and Price doubled, scoring McClellan.
Bernhard, Jennings and Price each had two of DePauw's eight hits. Three different Vikings had one each.
Henry moved to 4-4 after striking out 13 and walking just one. D. Sudick took the loss.
The Tigers return to action on March 19-20 when they compete in the Transylvania Pioneer Classic held in Elizabethtown, Ky.
